"Bad Ass Poetry" Bad Ass Poetry is an extraordinary piece of work! Ms. Charles takes her inspiration from many sources including her personal history, the history of her people and culture, her love of NY, literary inspirations, and life experiences. She not only portrays of her Haitian heritage and the black experience in America beautifully, but she speaks of the Human Experience and the on goings of everyday life both the joys and the pains. What is most impressive about her work is her ability to convey emotion. When you are reading one of her poems you will be surprised at how easily you can find a connection with the poem, even if it is something you never experience, heard of, or seen before. This emotional connection is intriguing and takes you through the book from beginning to end. By the time you reach the end of the book, you will be wondering when the next book is coming out. I give this book Two Dumbs Up, Five Stars, and a Perfect 10!

With ease, the author Castina Charles delivers a powerful, thought provoking set of poems about various topics: love, identity, religion, Africa, race, Haiti ect.... as I turned to page 10, I was already hooked. My spirit was planted and I felt hypnotize by her imaginative way of expression. I love her love affair with poetry.
