Mexican poet Cesar A. Cruz takes on the Empire with a powerful collection of poems, short stories and political bullets. Author Luis Rodriguez (Always Running) describes Cesar's writings as filled with "fierce insight and righteous rage." The book has received praise from Godfather of Chicano Studies, Rudy Acuna, political activist Yuri Kochiyama, former Black Panther Shaka At-thinnin, rapper Paris, and many others.

"It's about time!" Out here in Boise we just don't get exposed to anything like this. My people are called so many negative things from 'beaner,' and 'illegal.' Finally someone tells it like it is! I want to buy this book for all my ex-bosses, for the mayor, and all the racist people that have no idea about our strength. This book makes me proud to be Latino! "From The Soul" Cesar Cruz states that his mission is "to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable." I generally don't consider myself to be a "disturbed" individual but indeed I found his collection of poetry, stories, and essays to be comforting. It's comforting to read a body of work like this that displays much of what is rare these days: Honesty and Heart. Instead of becoming numb to the world around him Cesar's writing explores the anger, pain, saddness, love, joy, and hope of life. It is clear that he does not compromise what he believes to be the truth and that might just be uncomfortable for those who don't believe that art should be a reflection of life. But for those who want a dose of reality from someone who is willing to give it in ALL of it's forms (both positive and negative) they would be doing themselves a great favor by picking up this book. - Mike Cheng
"Great insight!" I began reading this book ,but so far I thought Cesar Cruz voiced his opinions well and gave a great insight about the injustice in america in I Wonder and If The Dead Could Speak.
"Revenge of the Illegal Alien" I had the honor of hearing the author do a reading of Revenge of the Illegal Alien at a book release event. It was truly a "magical" evening of powerful political poetry and prose. Many of the topics could have been voiced by those of different ethnic persuasions. The common ground that binds us are the historical outcomes of those in the lower levels of society by the powerful and political who usually only see us as important during elections.
"I was shocked, inspiring book" I must admit the title offended me, but it also had me at hello. I picked up this book with great intrigue and was moved by the force that Mr. Cruz writes. It is in your face and pulls no punches. Although I don't agree with everything he says, it is powerful. A must read! -Mary McGuire
