I read this book in two days. If you are an Indy car fan and a fan of the 500 this book is for you. If you have been to the 500, you can relate to Charles' passion for the race through his from the heart writing and 500 experiences. You will run a wide variety of emotions with his struggles, but his love for the Greatest Spectacle In Racing endures and conquers all. One small part of his book says it all for me. Chapter 4 ..... Charles lets the world know where and what is the greatest race in the world and what race is a very very distant 2nd, and I couldn't have agreed more. Thank You Charles

As a lifelong fan of the Indy 500, having attended my first race with my parents in 1950, it is easy to identify with West's obsession over "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." West captures the very essence of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is indeed a wondrous place for all race fans, young and old alike. Although it was difficult at times to relate to West's troubled and painful family life, one can't help anxiously awaiting his next month of May and travels to my hometown for the annual event. West describes a decade of pilgrimages from Texas to Indianapolis, which in time helped him mature and find himself as a man. "Long Kiss" is well written, West's descriptions of the Speedway colorful and accurate. I particularly liked his tremendous appreciation for Indy's history and traditions. Over the years my husband and I have bought many books about the history of the "Indy 500," but this is the first book I've read written from the personal point... More > of view of a fan. I am pleased to add "Long Kiss" to our collection and to recommend it all Indy fans. Beverly Fauvre< Less

If you are a fan of The Indianapolis 500 and / or you are a human being, you MUST read LONG KISS! I could not put it down. It is awesome how Mr. West uses the magic and traditions of Indianapolis to begin his own traditions, which go a long way in combating the daily and never ending stresses of life. You will laugh (spent turkey leg bones lining the gutters of Georgetown Road), and you will cry (family issues). Having attended the last 27 Indy 500s, I know where Mr. West is coming from (he may have even tripped on some of my spent turkey leg bones). I felt as if I were along for the ride with him, both for the race at the track, and the daily race of life. Thank you, Charles!

My wife gave me this book for Christmas. I started reading it later that day and had a hard time laying it down. I rarely read books, but this book was extremely interesting to me. I found it interesting because of the Indy 500 connection and because I knew the author, Charles West, as a child growing up in Midland. The book kept me "on edge" to see what was going to happen from year to year as he traveled to Indianapolis for "The Race." I could see the changes in him through the 10-year period and his excitement for "The Race." I am very impressed with the writing of Charles West and look forward to reading more of his work. I highly recommend this book for anyone that even slightly likes Indy racing.
