Wakefield Express Local retired businessman Charlie Walker has written many wonderful books, fact and poetry. He has used his literary talent to raise money for charities and the Hospice has benefitted tremendously from this, as well as benefitting financially. His writings on local history, told in such a humorous way, has rekindled so many memories for readers; brought many a smile, and very often a chuckle too. Here is one of his poems so appropriate to the work of the Wakefield Hospice Giving Giving much, without prior thought, can become a serious defect, And if handicapped by ulterior motives, then giving loses its effect. Why are we much happier at what we receive and not at what we give? Is this then in the very nature of things and how we were really born to live. But if the cause be worthy, should we not then give it some serious thought, And shouldn't we try to be more charitable and much kinder than we ought, So, I asked my God, how much more of this giving do I really... More > have to do? He replied, "you keep on giving my son, until I stop giving it to you! - Amen< Less
