Apr 3, 2008"The State Of The Nation" In The Past Men Became Slaves. Today They Have Become Robots. .'Erich Fromm No government can ever call itself democratic, if it chooses, to control and regulate, the emotional state of its people, like our present government chooses to do, with its cigarette, health scares, its drink drive purges and its constant announcements on what we should, or should not do. Governments are their to govern, to manage, and to set the conditions and to exercise the will of the majority of the people. They should not allow themselves to be unduly influenced, by the hundreds of usually misguided pressure groups, who with their vested interests, seem to spend most of their time, in trying to influence governments, to suit their own ends. If it fails in this it loses control. It should never try to adopt policies of trying to be all things to all the people. Ministers should stop acting like Prima Donna's, stop trying to score cheep political points and address the... More > questions, and deal effectively with matters of importance. Most of our politicians however should be sent back to their legal practices, their school playgrounds and their local government offices, they certainly are not needed within our three party system of government. It is the ministers of state and their shadows who have the power and the influence. The MPs are just figureheads and are only there to be used has voting fodder. Our political and legal systems, the law and government itself, are based on the misplaced principle, of confrontational arguments, between the participants involved, be they the politicians, or their friends the lawyer's., this misconception is then judged on, not what is right, or wrong, fair or unfair, just or unjust, but simply on a win or lose situation, on who has been seen to present the best argument, or make the better point, and this nonsense we call a democracy! We are controlled by two powerful so called democracies, our own parliament and the more important one in Brussels, We are in fact governed by an army of officials and health police, all telling us when to think, how to think, and what to think, and we have to comply with ever changing rules and regulations on a daily basis. the mindless morons of this world are quite happy to be controlled in this way, and to allow the state to do their thinking for them, It would now seem that the application of common sense is no longer accepted as a worthwhile occupation ! Our social lives become ever more restricted, and we dare not travel by car to a social function and partake of an alcoholic drink, because if we should stray over the prescribed legal limit for alcohol consumption and be caught over that limit then our driving license is confiscated, and this not for any motoring offense, but just in case we should commit one. So by applying their warped logic to this situation, our masters in high places must now surely decide, that one must never carry a pen knife or a screw driver,in a car in case one chooses to use these as a weapon, pity they didn't think of that possibility when Jack the Ripper was around. We cannot as adults use our cars unless we are strapped inside like a baby in its pram, we like babies are not to be trusted you see, because Nanny always knows best. We must not eat fatty foods, fry ups, take sugar in our tea, and we must not forget to wipe our bum's and wash our hands before we leave our toilets. Our kids in school are now being forced to eat healthy foods, but you cannot force kids to like and enjoy, cabbage, and broccoli, when at home they have been weaned on a diet of beef burghers and chips by their part time Mum's< Less
