"Welcome To My World [the real one]" Vintage Roadscene Magazine By Editor SW Stevens Stratton The author has contributed some articles for Vintage Roadscene. This is the true story of a self-made businessman who started in business in 1958 and retired, owning a large and very successful firm in Wakefield. His days of hard graft and being penniless in his early days, are vividly recounted. But his wicked sense of humour always comes through, as does his respect for the working classes. He calls a spade a bloody shovel. He is outspoken in his comments on politics, the law and many other aspects of life of yesterday and today. He vividly describes life in the Wakefield area which is compulsive reading. In his own words, he is a man who has succeeded 'without any of those so-called bloody qualifications'. This is a book that is fascinating reading and one that once started, one does not want to put it down. SW Stevens Stratton Classic And Vintage Commercial Magazine If you... More > want to live in reality and have an entertaining read, then this is a book for you. Starting in the 1930s as an impoverished schoolboy, C G Walker worked the hard way up the ladder in the haulage industry, before ending up with a sizeable operation of his own. OK, we have all read memories before, but not quite like this one 'The human element of this book is fascinating, and so much of what is recalled is typical of what went on in the transport industry - there is no beating about the bush here! I felt so at home reading this book that I did not want to put it down, it just sucks you in like a good novel should. The section called 'The Lessons Learned In My Life' is well worth reading and if you want to make it in this world, it is certainly a great inspiration! This book most definitely does make compulsive reading. Rating Five Star *****Reviewed by Peter Love This book certainly struck a cord with me, it glued me to every page and just wouldn't let go until the end. It brought me out of myself and took me on a journey, where therewas a laugh and a cry and something of interest on every page. I read a lot and this is one of the best books I have ever read.
