"Things Remembered by Chester A. Reece " This book is a window on the 20th century from the eyes of someone who has lived it and has great recall of facts and details of the major events of his life. Of particular interest are the stories of growing up during the Great Depression in the rural south. For WW II buffs, the accounts of the First Marine Division in the Pacific theater will be worth reading. The 'worms-eye' view of the war is one that is hard to find in history books that overlook the horrors of the individual soldier and glorify the war. Ultimately, this is a story of a man who grew up poor and through drive and force of will built a successful life. A story that 'everyman' can relate to and learn from.
