The Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game is a rules-light game system based on the d20 SRD v3.5, but heavily rewritten with inspiration from early RPG game systems. It is suitable for those who are fans of "old-school" game mechanics, and it's simple enough for children in perhaps second or third grade to play, yet still having enough depth for adults as well. This is the revised 2nd Edition of the Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules.

One day I'll write a proper review worthy of this game. But for now this will have to do! ;) Being a "retro-clone" and bound by various licenses, the author is probably not allowed to mention which boxed sets from the 80's this game emulates. This is a lovely rules-set not only because Dungeoneering characters can reach Level 20 (a level at which Dragons are easier to slay) but rules and guidelines to play are selected for fans of Basic and Expert play. Combat also benefits from a slight d20-style revision to armour class allowing for instant reckoning of To-Hit rolls without the need for tables. This set is an absolute bargain and there's plenty of downloads to go with these rules (not to mention a friendly online community). Even the font is well chosen for it's nostalgic effect. The black and white illustrations are perfectly evocative of "old-school" games. A cherished bargain! -Bb (a fan)
While this game professes to be based on D&D 3.5 SRD, it is in all actuality a variation on or, dare I say it, a virtual re-write of the D&D Rules Cyclopedia. This is a good thing for those of us who long for the days of simpler fantasy roleplaying.
"Fantastic Update" This is a fantastic update to the early D&D rule sets. It is simple and elegant. It is also very easy to modify to fit your group's preferences (as all RPGs should be). Excellent job!!!
