From the author of the underground best seller 'Diary of a Ghost' comes another spellbinding tale.
The volcanic eruption of Mont Pelée in 1902 is but a distant memory for those living on the tranquil Caribbean island of Martinique.
Yet the ancient spirit that for millennia has used the volcano to destroy the lives of humans has re-awoken. It is determined to wreak vengeance upon the creatures infesting its territory.
Battling this malicious force is writer David Senton and his family. Their only allies are a guilt-ridden Catholic priest and the ‘Jigsaw man’, the last Caraibe Indian left alive.

I thought this would be an interesting change from my usual diet of Stephen King and Thomas Harris....it was. This starts of innocently enough but soon became a very scary read. The characters are believable and the possession all the more scary because we identify so closely with them. The ghostly elements also serve to turn this into what can only be described as modern classic. I could barely bring myself to put it down and am now reluctant to venture outside in the dark.....and the patter of tiny feet makes the hairs on my back stand on end! (Don't read this if you are of a nervous disposition).
This is a great read. While artfully describing the beauty of the Caribbean it also manages to skilfully bring to life a truly terrifying tale of demonic possession. The characters are believable but this just makes the story all the more frightening. Not for the faint hearted. The interracial romance at the heart of the story is also pretty intense.
