Between 2000 and 2003, Chris Wedding, a Kentucky native and North Carolina resident, taught in Japan with the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. During that time, he sent home letters which described the 80,000 miles and 1,000 days of his life and travels in Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Australia. This book, with over sixty pictures, is based on these letters. It is part travelogue, part social and environmental commentary, and part humor. The book was inspired by the best-selling comedic travel writings of Bill Bryson. Those who have read Three Years in Asia call it “charming” and “an entertaining portrait of life in Japan” claiming that it makes them “laugh out loud” and feel as if they’re on the journey with the author to “the other side of the world.” 100% of the profits from the sale of this book go to charities which support children in need in Southeast Asia.

"Three Years In Asia" Wow! This book reveals a real down to earth look into the cultures of Southeast Asia, providing a special interest in Japanese culture together with his self-emersion and numerous experiences into the day to day living of his "beloved" Japan and Southeast Asia. This author presents his travel experiences in a manner which provides the reader an opportunity to share in the sights, sounds, aromas and the laughter enjoyed as he makes his way into another world. He will take you into the streets of villages in Vietnam and Thailand, into the homes of Japanese friends and rice fields with the native women and children; he will even present the visual, through his descriptive and creative writing, of him hopping off the back of an ox driven cart to play in the rice fields with women and children, slinging rice and "leeches", yes, leeches. The women and children were slinging and laughing as he manuevered his body in various directions trying... More > to avoid being hit by the leeches. If you are young, with a desire to travel and emerse yourself into cultures other than your own, this book will "stir" the urge; if you have a desire to experience other cultures in the comfort of your own home, this "descriptive" and "creative" lively presentation of life in, "Three Years in Asia" by Chris Wedding,is a MUST. "Three Years in Asia" This book reveals a descriptive journey of one couples experiences from friendship to a loving relationship through cities, villiages and countysides of Japan and southern Asia with a proposal of marriage under a waterfall in Australia during the Christmas holidays no less. Through his voice the author paints a setting in which you can actually feel as though you are on the journey together. I hope you enjoy this journal of traveling to the other side of the world as much as I have.

"Three years in Asia by Chris wedding" I highly recommend this book. It talks about travel experiences that most people would never have the oppurtunity to do and/or the guts to try. What better way to experience these travels than by looking thru the eyes of someone who actually accomplished these wonderfull trips. Could you see yourself in Japan, Vietnam, Thailand? Maybe by reading this books it would inspire and motivate you to try one or all of these life learning experiences. by Dan Duncan

"a traveler's dream" What's the best thing for a traveler besides traveling? Living vicariously through the adventures of others!! This tasty book is tiding me over while I contemplate my next journey. The author's wit is engaging and his inclusive writing style makes me feel as if I am the one opening the most recent letter. Additionally, his insights into cross-cultural experiences ring true with my own, while also providing new food for thought.

"Book gave me new option after graduation" After graduating last year, my friends and I wanted an adventure instead of an office job. Three Years In Asia provided us with the inside scoop we were after. The personal letter format of the book also allowed us to get a look into not just the travels and the culture but the thoughts and insights one might have while living and traveling abroad, especially in a foreign land like Japan. Maybe we'll write our own book when we're finished traveling Asia!
