This is really a 'how to' guide for parents seeking a perspective on adoption from a first hand point of view. Although many situations may differ, along with the children's needs and experiences, the advice in this book holds strong for all parents when it comes to attachment, discipline and love. A book like this can only be written by someone who has experienced such amazing acts of kindness. Christen and Lisa's writing is flawless, but more amazing is their ability to teach while telling their unique stories. A must read for those wanting to adopt, those who have adopted and those whose lives are touched by adoption.

This read was so moving and inspirational. I felt like I got to know the Shepherd family so well, it was almost like I was there. Christen and Trevor are such strong and compassionate people, that it touched me to know the choices they made despite the challenges that they faced, and could have chosen to walk away from. I believe that they are an example to us all about making a commitment and seeing it through no matter how difficult. I was so impressed that it makes me think they could be angels. Lisa is such a strong person and she knew what she was doing, and she is gifted with the insight and intuition to recognize the complications of the many different situations. She clearly knew exactly what advice and temperament to approach the family with. Wisdom is the word I thought for Lisa's work in this team with the Shepherd's. I can't help but think that this book with the truthful information could be a necessary tool for anyone who might be considering adoption. In fact it might... More > be a wise idea for the CAS or any similar organization, to provide offer it to any parent giving adoption sincere consideration. The read would allow people to make decisions with their eyes wide open and not look at the choice through rose colored glasses. In fact it is my honest opinion that the information in this book, and it's relation to understanding, and reacting to children, with birth family or adopted family, would be very helpful be aware of the choices for handling the different challenges ( learning opportunities ) using the various options discussed in the different chapters. We all get stuck in what we learned from our own parents, that we are challenged here to think through, talk and understand instead of react. Thank you for this insightful information.< Less
