In her premiere self-published work, In a Land of Hatred, the author breathes life into two-dimensional stock characters of folklore and fairytales. Her journalistic, straightforward style is a refreshing departure from the overly flowery language that is often a trapping of many fantasy novels. This approach makes a fanciful realm come to life in a realistic manner that draws in the reader. In a Land of Hatred would appeal to fans of the fantasy genre, especially teens and young adults. This book would also be a good recommendation for those who enjoyed Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series.

This book was an amazing read. It did not take me long to be caught up in Veronica and Tommy's world. The writing was so great I could see the story unfold in my mind. The ending is killer and I can't wait for the sequel so I can pick up where I left off!

"Story easily traps you:" In a Land of Hatred puts to use folklore characters the best way I have seen yet! In this tale, you go from reading to escape your reality to appreciating your reality. The author has written tight, captivating chapters that encourage you to keep turning the pages. I read it through the first time within 24 hours. Did you catch that I said the "first time"? Yes, I am guilty of reading this book twice now. So, even if you're not that big of a reader or not into this particular genre, you have got to put that all aside and grab up this book- you will love it.

I've sometimes found it difficult to find fresh and unique fantasy novels, but "In a Land of Hatred" is a breath of fresh air and a page-turner. You'll quickly find yourself immersed in the dreary land of Hatred Blooms and its fascinating inhabitants who often aren't as the first appear. Both the main characters and the various creatures of Hatred Blooms are vibrant and feel very real. This novel explores the timeless theme of a young woman learning to appreciate all the little joys and comforts of her life after she is forced to live in a brutal and harsh land. I think there is a bit of Veronica in all of us who tend to dwell on the negative aspects of our lives and forget about the beauty that's all around us. "In a Land of Hatred" is a great and imaginative story, but it's also a good reminder that we shouldn't take anything in our lives for granted. It's rare to find a novel that's an enjoyable read with a worthwhile message that simply unfolds throughout the... More > story without coming across as preachy.< Less
