Roarke Davenport is a gifted painter and an affable wreck. Hampered with self-doubt and self destruction, he hopes to make it out of his small town before drowning in a river of his own bullshit.
With a little luck and a kick in the ass he just might make it.
Packed with unforgettable characters and rich dialogue, Chris Craig expertly captures life in a small town and the restless hearts that reside there.
Chris' commanding skill as a narrator puts you in that small town living the life of Roarke Davenport. His ability to capture the human experience evokes every emotion possible. Each character is carefully developed in such a way that you either get attached, enraged or amused. One minute you're on the verge of tears, the next you're laughing out loud. I couldn't put this book down. Just as you wish the best for Roarke in the end, same goes for Chris. Hopefully Chris will continue to share his talent with us.
Chris Craig's words convey life -- the pain, struggle, humor, and confusion -- that exists in all of us. In Show Pony he shares those moments through some of the most real characters you'll find. Especially amazing for a first-time author none of us have heard of. Writing this review, in fact, makes me want to pick it up and read it again.
Hilarious and Touching. "Show Pony" is full of heart, heart break and a whole lot of humor. This book captured my full attention from page one. You can't help but root for the lead character Roarke Davenport. A loveable lost soul, with so much talent that goes untapped. Can the memorable characters around him help him overcome self-doubt? Or are they the reason he can't recognize his own gifts? The writing is so funny, I would read lines outloud to any one near to share the laugh. This book took me on a journey I didn't want to end. Chris Craig... more please!!!
Show Pony is a wonderful story with amazing characters! I was cheering for Roarke one moment and laughing out loud the next. One can only hope there will be more books from Craig.
