After being diagnosed with C. diff in October of 2011 I did what many of us would do and immediately began scouring the internet for information. While I found many helpful and interesting articles, the context of the information was usually not fully from the patient’s point of view. I soon discovered that good, reliable information that would help ME was actually very difficult to find (and even harder to organize into a cogent form.) When I received this book a few weeks ago and quickly scanned its Table of Contents I knew that it would become much more than my Guide, and in very short order has become my COMPANION, coming with me to every doctor’s appointment. I suspect it will soon become the most dog-eared and annotated book that I have ever owned (a difficult thing to achieve, in my case). I hope that this book becomes very successful for the authors not just financially but in much more meaningful ways, too. At the very least this excellent publication is saving lives. If I... More > knew what award this book would qualify for I would nominate it without hesitation. If the authors ever consider publishing a second revision I have a few ideas, all of which come directly from my heart and are meant in the most well-intended and constructive way possible: (1) A chapter devoted to C. diff hygiene in the home. What does a C.diff-safe bathroom look like? Should surgical gloves be used there? Paper towels only? (2) Tell us more about what a recovering C. diff patient should be eating and tell us how and when we should transition beyond BRAT and back into normal diets. (3) An index would be most welcome and a glossary most helpful, especially for the many scientific terms. (4) I’d appreciate the book in some portable format too, preferably PDF. My sincere congratulations and thanks for a truly superb book! Everyone that is diagnosed with C. diff should receive a copy from their doctor on the same day.< Less

This is a wonderful book. Answers for everyone suffering with C-Diff. I have been suffering with this for two years. It's a great book for family and friends to understand what a person goes through with this disease. Before this book, the only information I could find was on-line, and not always the correct information. I highly recommend this book. The word needs to get out.

I had C. difficile for 8 miserable months in 2005 - 2006. I really wish this book had been available then. It is very encouraging, with lots of "you can get over this" messages. It has all kinds of useful info, from a patient's perspective and a doctor's perspective. It is very clear and defines any "doctor speak" so we can understand it. There are lots of references that people can show to their doctors. Or they can tell their doctors to buy the book. Full disclosure: I volunteer on the C. diff support site mentioned in the book, and my story is one of those in the book. Even though I have volunteered on the cdiff site for a number of years, I learned a lot from reading this book, especially about new tests and new treatments for this nasty bug. I recommend it highly.
