"Christopher's Book Review by Richard Harris" ‘A day in the life of Cameille’ is a photo-book documenting a day in the life of Cameron McCloud Miller, who goes by the alias of Cameille Humps. Every Wednesday Cameille works at a regular event called ‘Trannyshack’ at Soho’s Review bar in central London. So the author, being a friend of Cameille and knowing that it would make an intriguing idea for a book, requested if he could spend some time with him photographing ‘A day in the life of Cameille’ . This book follows Cameille on one of these ‘Trannyshack’ nights, where Christopher takes a non-judgmental approach to photographing his subject, simply documenting what I would call a reveling insight into one of London’s more taboo cultures. The first thing I notice about Christopher’s book is its 7.5" x 7.5" format, which with its minimal design throughout, I found very pleasing to view, and suited the subject perfectly. The only text contained is a short introduction... More > providing some background information and the intention of the book. This then leads on to the start of the book with photographs of Cameille getting ready and depicting some rather intimate moments, such as him applying make-up and choosing his outfit. The layout remains consistent throughout, having one photograph per right hand page with a blank page opposite. The photographs themselves are all full-colour and with some pages containing four images on one page, in a square 2x2 format. The book could be divided into three sections; it begins with Cameron’s lengthy preparation to become Cameille, then the journey to Soho, and finally his performance where the book ends. Overall I found Christopher’s book to be highly successful, his use of strong composition with great subject matter combine to make a well thought out and emotional photo-book.< Less
