Emma was a war baby. Her two teen-aged brothers were recruited to fight on opposite sides during the war. Emma never knew which side she belonged to but she needed to belong. She tried to fit in and be accepted by her peers and specially by the authorities; only her peers and the authorities were forever changing. What was good one day was considered evil the next. Emma constantly readjusted her beliefs. As an eighteen years old medical student Emma married a divorced man; this sin was condemned by her parents, by her society and by the church. Emma was excommunicated by the people she loved. She followed her husband Frank from Slovenia to Australia. Both carried the guilt of it all until they returned to meet their accusers. They finally realise that home is not a place on a map but what they carried in their minds and hearts.
