Poems from the Clarendon

ByClarendon Centre

About a year ago we started displaying poems from people at the Clarendon, along with classic poems in the café at the Clarendon. Rubbing shoulders with Keats and Shelley, our poems seemed to stand up pretty well, so it was only a matter of time until we had accumulated enough to put together in a book. We discovered two vital resources- an on demand publisher ideal for those short on capital which would produce our work, but also offered the possibility of printing accompanying photos. From CharlieTyack.com, we found a collection of images we could fit to the verse. As the idea developed there became quite a buzz and writing poetry became unusually popular, with several people writing poetry –and good poetry- for the first time. In doing so, covering widely different subjects, each of the contributors has revealed something of their own nature, with often startlingly poignant and arresting insights into themselves and the wider world.
