Easy on the Odes: A Latin Phrase-Book for the Odes of Horace
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Everyone interested in classical literary culture or the history of Western thought and literature should be familiar with the Odes of Horace, but their power is hard to grasp without some encounter with the original language and that language is often obscure and precious.
This book attempts a solution to the difficulty by extracting and translating all adjectival phrases. These constitute almost 70% of the full work. After mastering these phrases, students will not find the original half as daunting.
Easy on the Odes also includes a clean text of the Odes for classroom use or general review. An appendix alphabetically lists all of the adjectives of the poems so that readers can see at a glance Horace's favorite adjectival modifiers.
This book supports a phrase-based approach to the acquisition of Latin, but it can be used in conjunction with any standard teaching method.
