Thanks for the Socks, World War I Letters

ByClaus Reuter

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
The letters were written between 1916 and 1919 by members of the 109th Battalion C.E.F. and the 38th Battalion C.E.F. The 109th was as service battalion. The members of the battalion were recruited in Lindsay and Victoria County. Because of the high casualties in other units, the 109th was used to fill these other units up to strength again. By December 1916 the 109th was disbanded. Its members were send to strengthen the 38th, 21th, 20th and some other units. The letters in the booklet were written in the U.K. and in the field in France. All the letters were censored by the military and because of that we will not find anything in them to tell us about the life in the trenches. Included in the booklet are extracts of the military papers of 3 members of the 109th. The military papers will show what happened to these men serving overseas. It shows the pain and suffering. The Great War as it was called, was supposed to be the WAR TO END ALL WARS. By now we all know better.
