Book Review Title: From Within the Light Author: Clemy Warner-Thompson Genre: YA/Fantasy/Paranormal Rating: **** Review: In the prologue of From Within the Light we are introduced the Cassie and Kale as they try to escape men who are hunting them and for a while they succeed until they hit a dead end, and just when it seems like Cassie is going to sacrifice her life for his, he takes the blow. I am not sure how the prologue fits into the rest of the story, but I am sure it will become clear very soon. We join Cassie on a not so day as she prepares for college where she is studying for her final exams. We learn that her brother Dillen attends the same college as a first-year student, her mother Sandra is a nurse and her father Bryan is on the police force and had to leave regularly and every time he does it really upsets Cassie, because of this it seems like Cassie doesn't have a great relationship with either of her parents. During school that day she suddenly notices the college's... More > bad boy Matthew Kale, making me think this is the same Kale from the prologue and she even dreams of him complicating the easy-going relationship she has with Gabe, who seems to have a small crush on Cassie. After meeting Matthew for the first time she keeps running into him sometimes literally and she doesn't understand what is so special about him. During her religious studies lecture on angels Cassie begins to notice some strange things like losing a sense of time but the most interesting thing is she is shown projections of angels and two images stand out to her. The first she almost feels an energy radiation from it and the second shows two angels who look striking similar to Matthew and Gabe. One thing she also notices is the changes in the behaviour of the two boys, Matthew has taken a distinct interest in her and Gabe’s behaviour is cold, and he even warns her against getting close to Matthew. This book definitely brings a lot of good things to the literature world for young audiences: Overall, the book is a really interesting read. Recommended For: Teenagers and young adults both will enjoy this book. It has themes that both age groups can enjoy, but it’s definitely borderline due to the settings and maturity of the characters. Audiences below 15 may have a hard time relating to the characters unless they have an older sibling or friend in college who they are influenced by, but the romance aspects and plot aspects will definitely capture their attention.
