This book is about the innate happiness and joy that can be discovered on awakening by becoming 'Aware of' and 'identifying with' Awareness. This is to be achieved by direct investigation of moment-to-moment experience which readily reveals the Pure Awareness that underlies our existence. This leads to discovering the happiness that needs nothing external to ourselves to manifest. Here are some reviews by my readers: Years of searching and mental suffering melted away in one evening. With great ease and clarity you have done for me what no else would do. I am no longer on the outside looking in. You have my whole heart. Robert Carter Outstanding Colin. Thank you! BOOK REVIEW OF "THE HAPPINESS THAT NEEDS NOTHING" BY RAMAJI (An American Spiritual Teacher and author of several books on self-inquiry) Colin Drake's new book "The Happiness That Needs Nothing" is a spiritual self-help manual in the best sense of the word. Nothing is kept mysterious. Even in so-called "direct pointing" books by some famous non-dual names, I still get the feeling that somehow there is an air of drama, mystery and secrecy. Colin's writing is like one of those guides for budding magicians where a famous illusionist reveals the true secrets of his famous tricks. The naked simplicity of the exposition is what takes the breath away. I especially like Colin's emphasis on happiness. I'm pretty sure that Ramana Maharshi answered numerous questions with words to the effect "If realizing the Self did not yield the greatest happiness, what would be the point? Happiness is what we human beings yearn for!" His Holiness the Dalai Lama is known... More > for repeatedly affirming the same message. Teachers at a lesser level emphasize other things. It is, perhaps, because they themselves are not actually happy! Colin's emphasis on happiness arrives at the right time. Enough already with teachers who have a reached a cosmic consciousness or non-dual awakening of some kind where they still kick the dog, sneak out on their wife for sordid affairs and do not practice basic human virtues like kindness or telling the truth. Happy people do happy things. For one thing, they enjoy loving and being loved. Colin does a great job of bringing all of this home to the reader. We are human beings after all. Everything has Buddha Nature, even rocks, but the Buddha Nature of human beings flowers as love, peace, happiness and joy, even the sweet joys of the senses. I am thrilled to see Colin emphasizing this fundamental day to day truth about authentic awakening and the solid realization of the Absolute. Call this attainment what you like, it is important to understand that it fulfills the deepest yearnings of the human heart. That makes Colin's book a great service to non-dual readers who, perhaps misled by moody enlightened misfits like the late U. G. Krishnamurti, could not understand what all the noise is about. Well, folks, what the noise is about is being truly happy -- and Colin points the way with a smile.< Less
