They are forbidden from voting or being elected to political office, however, King Abdullah, the ruler of Saudi Arabia, recently declared that Saudi women will be able to vote and run in the local elections in the year 2015. King Abdullah also declared that women will also be appointed to the Consultative Assembly. The women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, and it is the only country in the world that prohibits women from driving vehicles. According to the survey of The World Economic Forum 2009 Global Gender Gap Report ranked Saudi Arabia 130th out of 134 countries for gender parity.
