The Lasley Family of Old Mackinac covers the generations of Samuel C. Lasley, a post-Revolutionary War American soldier, turned business man, who first arrived on Mackinac Island (Michilimackinac) in 1796 during his military tour, and later took up permanent residence several years prior to the War of 1812. Samuel C. Lasley’s five known sons: Samuel Jr., William, George, John, and James were notable figures of the Mackinac region in both business and politics during the height of the North American Fur Trade, and are the patriarchs of hundreds (and possibly thousands) of people who are alive today. This work was an effort to try to understand just who these men were, as well as to chronicle their descendants into modern times as they could be found.
