A new collection of fiction by British-born writer Corinne Fowler. Chafing at the edge of political debates and straying into taboo territory, the protagonists of these stories are caught up in some intriguing challenges and dilemmas. 'The Flood' is set at the edge of the Thames in a village bristling with private jet owners and French poodles. When the protagonist discovers he’s the only guest to arrive at a reunion, he begins to reassess his view that the foul weather conditions are a blip on the weather charts. ‘The Tower’ takes a foray through some woodlands at the edge of a Scottish mining village, exploring the emotional dimensions of a very private grief and an age-old taboo. In 'Katherine', the protagonist finds her social circle unexpectedly claustrophobic. Corinne is author of a new academic study called ‘Chasing Tales: travel writing, journalism and the history of British ideas about Afghanistan’ (Rodopi: Amsterdam and New York, 2007).
