The third instalment of the Panopticon series covered alot of ground spread over the shortest period of time. It was a ripping good read, but there were aspects of the story where I thought the author could have delved more deeply into particular sub-plots. I really liked the quest of Gabriel's brothers and neice though felt it was underdone as a sub-plot. The book concludes the longer story across the trilogy really well, while still leaving it open to take the characters on a new journey. I will certainly be purchasing the next book!

I confess I am a huge fan of the Panopticon series books written by Cristina Archer and this book is a gripping third instalment. Cristina seems to revel in presenting a different approach to telling a story in each of the books she has written and this book is no exception. The first instalment (the Recidivist) spanned many milleniums and still managed to delve deeply into ethics in history in a satisfying way. The second instalment (the Penitentiary) spanned a few decades and picked apart the nature of friendship and family. This third instalment packs the action into a few months and brings the long form story intertwined across the series to an exciting conclusion. All my favourite characters are back and some new players emerge to stir the pot. I have read that there may be a fourth instalment to the series in the making. I for one hope so because Cristina's observations on controversial themes are insightful and thought provoking.
