Cristina's third novel is a pearl of a story. I was instantly drawn in by the 'mystery' observer's perspective that opened the story and remained intrigued throughout. I felt this particular character's perspective could have been read literally or as a high-level conceptual parable (or perhaps both) - either way, it was brilliant. The other key characters Cristina has offered and their journeys are rich with thought-provoking messages on a range of ethical dilemmas, many of which can translate to modern life. I was amazed by Cristina's reimaginings of key historical events and myths and legends. This fantasy/speculative fiction novel is elegant and self-contained. Cristina certainly knows how to end a story in a way that leaves any reader satisfied - I was blown away by it.

This writer gets better with each outing and her latest (third) novel is a fascinating journey through time. Cristina has a way of delving into some of the most challenging of philosophical questions without once feeling like anything other than good story-telling. She's probably offended every major religion on the planet writing this book but I would hope zealots will delve more deeply into the underlying messages about placing more trust in love, family and friends. Definitely a book for adults (especially given some of the graphic battles described) but one well worth reading.
