"Allergy Free - Thank the Gods" I'm one of the lucky ones on Earth. I'm allergy free. The only time I break out in hives is when I'm around very dirty things, so I guess those hives are natural. I outgrew asthma as a child. I have sisters who are allergic to everything and anything. One of my sisters has gotten better over time. She's no longer allergic to the grass outside, but at one time, she was. One of my favorite treats in the world is a peanut butter cup. It is by one of these tasty treats that author Crystal Ordonez claims her first victim in Kulinary Killers. That alone was frightening for me. Many a time have I gone around, eating peanut butter cups, and then offering a kiss to friends and family. I no longer have the urge to do this since the moments when I read this story. I may never eat another peanut butter cup again. From the death by peanuts, Ordonez moves us into a time where literally every product used by man is produced from corn - an easy alternative... More > to trees and more environmentally friendly. The problem with corn is that there is always the chance of a drought and a bad harvest. So, what better a thing to do than engineer genetically modified rain clouds that would soak the corn crops with special vitamins and preservatives - guaranteeing never-ending successful crops. This actually sounds like a great idea, doesn't it? But, then you have the question - what about those allergic to corn and corn products? And what happens once this new genetically engineered product eventually gets into the water supply? From there, there is no turning back. Crystal Ordonez began as an author with a love for romance, offering readers her Rainy Day Confessions and Cassandra's Cop. With Caeli's Daniachew and The Silver Chronicles, she proved that she was not just a one card gal, and tempted us with a bit of action and suspense. Yet, with each new offering she gives us, her genres continuously change. There is no predicting what this author will do next. Like with Alienation Victim, Michael, and the Cover Model - just to name a few - Ordonez concentrates on a genre that is all her own. Reality Horror. Things that could really happen... Kulinary Killers could really happen... That thought alone is scarier than any horror movie or Clive Barker book on the shelves today. Once again, I am thankful that I have no allergies. I can eat whatever I want, be given medications by the doctors, and use virtually any product that I desire. I'm not even allergic to a bee's sting. But for those out there who are not so fortunate, heed my warning. Read Kulinary Killers with the knowledge that though this is horror and a story of fiction, it is still very much a reality. And if the world keeps progressing in the fashion, matter, and form that it is, the Kulinary Killers could be your reality. If you enjoy a good, frightening tale, then you will enjoy this story. It will scare you and it will make you think twice about the products that you use, the foods that you eat, the papers that you read, and the toys that you give your children. You will not end this story without a heavy, pondering mind and thoughts that make you wonder "What if..." And this, dear reader, is the best gift an author could ever give you. Crystal Ordonez pens a brilliant tale of humanity and suspense, feasting again on the modern day fears that attack us all in one form or another. Once again, she has trapped me in her spell - her adventurous and magical web of terror and fear - and she remains on the very top of my literary reading list. J. L.
