The possibilities for excitement in the land of Cyon seem nearly boundless for two newly retired soldiers and best friends: Captain Gustavius Snaggletooth - a small, debonair Maltese with madly misaligned teeth; and Sergeant Oslo Redbone - a massive Doberman known as a soldier’s soldier. Setting out on the first day after their retirement from the service of King Leopold II, the friends discover that adventure is easier to come by than they had expected. In fact, it seems that adventure may be impossible to avoid. ((Recommended ages 10 to adult.))

"Dogs are better than cats" This book proves that dogs are more fun than cats. There is no way that a Tabby Cat could get into all the trouble that a Maltese gets into. Or that a Cheshire cat could save the world (or at least a little corner of it) like a Doberman can. Besides arnen't there enough cat books in the world. When they make a movie out of this great book I think Snaggletooth should be Martin Short and Oslo should be Mel Gibson.

"My kind of book" I especially like the writing style of combining a children’s book and an adult's book. Manning did such a good job of introducing Gus and Red that I couldn't wait to join in on their adventures. I picked up the book one night hoping to read myself to sleep but quickly found myself wrapped up in the adventure.

"Enchanting! " A wonderful story for all ages. I look forward to more books by C. V. Manning - Perhaps this generation's A.A. Milne/J.R.R. Tolkien. I purchased two copies: one for my personal library, and one to read to my grandchildren.

"Fun Fun Fun" I picked up a copy of this book from a friend over the holiday and loved it. It is unique, clever, and in subtle ways thought provoking. To bad I missed Christmas but it will be a great gift for my grandson. This is better than all the Cat books out there. It is a cross of Horatio Hornblower and Narnia with a little Emily Bronte thrown in for good measure. You could read this through in one fun night of adventure - I did.

"Quality edition" The formatting and editing problems of the first two versions have been corrected in the current (3rd) version creating a quality edition. The story is a fantasy/adventure that illustrates various traditional virtues and the conflict between good and evil. It probably best fits the reading capabilities of a just pre-teen to early teen audience, but is designed to appeal to adult readers as well. The illustrations should sit well with readers too young to read the book themselves but happy to have the book read to them.
