Following his fledgling Army career Walter finds himself as part of the British Expeditionary Force sent to France at the outbreak of war in September 1939, where he and the rest of the BEF are forced to endure the harsh winter weather, the boredom of the phony war and the increasing belief that the top brass don’t know what they’re doing. Culminating in the opening salvo’s of the German Blitzkrieg of May 1940 where the British forces are suddenly rapidly retreating, Walter finds himself volunteered for that fateful mission which is the beginning of ‘Gunn’. This is the second book in the Walter Gunn series and is a prequel to the successful ‘Gunn’ which chronologically follows this story.
