As a Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother; I cried with Shep's mother as the boys left for service and the unknown.

An entertaining, easy read for Civil War enthusiasts of all ages. Dalton Shelby recounts the escapades of Roe, who, in 1861, at the age of 16, joined the Ninth Texas Cavalry of the Confederate States of America. The book's depiction of James Monroe's military career from Clarksville, Texas to Kansas is like browsing through a photo album of coloful snapshots from yesteryear; a time gone long ago, but a time that will never be forgotten. I highly recommend this book.
