Trade Paperback Edition
A compilation of issues 1 through 5 of the Journal of Ride Theory, the zine about amusement parks, rides and strange forms of transportation. WIRED magazine called it "...Singularly charming and witty," and the Willamette Week named it one of Portland's "Best 'Zines for Inducing Bafflement and Awe." Articles include: Rex Everything of Negativland on the Haunted Mansion; Teresa Bergen on the Tiger Balm Gardens; "Power to the People Mover"; Jacques Bouchard on the American Carwash; the Pep Boys; Carl Houston on Ride Brut; Roger Rabbit's Car-Toon Spin; Universal Studios Hollywood; World's Fairs of the 20th Century; the 1939 "Futurama" ride; Flying Saucers at Disneyland; submarine busses; Freedomland; new introductions to each issue by the editor, and previously unpublished bonus material.
This book is an absolute must for any amusement park fans. Great Disneyland articles for park nerds and some wonderful world's fair material. I wish JoRT was still published as a "sporadical"
"A Colossus Astride Two Nations" The Journal of Ride Theory stands erect with one foot firmly planted in a forest of attentive and original research, the other foot just as firmly planted in a field of whimsy and delight. Let no home go without a copy of the Journal of Ride Theory.
"Dan & Dem Rides" I used to buy Ride Thoery zines whenever they came out, so I'm glad that Dan slapped them all into a book. It's a wonderful read! Being a Space Age neard, I enjoyed the World's Fair section. Thanks for the book and I hope to see more soon. Don-O
