'Just Love it on the Train' is one of my favourite poems in the 3rd of Daniel's poetry books. I found it very funny amd love his observations. I love 'I'll Have a Spitfire' especialy as I now the festival and places he is writing about. I enjoyed all three books but I enjoy lsitening to Daniel performing his poetry, espeically the humourous ones.

There is much to enjoy in Daniel’s third impressive compilation. The comedy is as usual on fire, his take on the world both pithy and observant: not least the train journey in which a rather large woman struggles to see her feet on standing, while, in almost the same breath, a bald, oriental-looking man is imagined on the toilet! There is more to the poetry than wit and irreverence, however. Especially on the ‘The Place Where Only Dead Men Sleep’ the imagery is wonderfully evocative, not unlike Siegfried Sassoon at his best. ‘There’s Just News Coming In’, a rallying cry against warmongering politicians, is both angry and thoughtful, as is ‘Truncheon For Luncheon’. Being a lefty, I appreciate his targeting of small-minded bureaucracy and political apathy. Then again, the stoic defiance of ‘Big C’ will no doubt appeal to anyone who loves life and believes in struggling on against the odds – a triumph then.
