An interesting story of fact and fiction that will be of interest to about anyone that loves grouse hunting, pointing dogs or has a love and interest in Appalachian folklore. I was blessed to make a few tracks with Briar and his Master in the hills of Eastern Kentucky and know firsthand the legend of Deadeye and the notoriety of Big Penny. I know you will enjoy this memoir of one of the best grouse dogs I ever hunted with.

An engaging story about grouse hunting in Appalachia told through the eyes of the grouse dog. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the outdoors. The author makes you think you haven't lived a full life unless you're a grouse hunter. The stories are entertaining and it's hard to put the book down.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves hunting ruffed grouse and loves the outdoors in general. The author tells his story of becoming a grouse hunter in Appalachia through the eyes of his dog Briar. At times Briar will have you laughing and at other times crying. This book will bring to mind memories to anyone who has spent time in the woods pursuing ruffed grouse.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED This is a very well written book that details some of the life stories of the author and his love for the outdoors, particularly grouse hunting. The book has a very clever and unique twist, as it is narrated by the author's grouse dog, Briar, and told through his eyes, and words. Briar will have you laughing and crying through his stories in a book that you cant put down. It is extremely refreshing to see how moments in Danny's life were etched into life long memories, and how those experiences shaped not only his life, but so many others as well. When I finished the book, I realized that it was sparking a reflection of my own life, and how the "really" important moments can fly by un-noticed unless you take the time to let them happen, and see them for what they are worth. We have all become so engrossed in our day-to-day challenge to do more, and do it faster, that we are letting what the author describes as"4-D" moments go un-noticed. If that... More > happens, not only will you be cheating yourself, but all those around you as well. Excellent book< Less
