"Pretty nice how-to manual" Older versions of yum (from FC1 and 2) need the structure created by yum-arch. There's no harm in leaving it in as long as there is the potential that FC1 or FC2 systems may use it. Both yum-arch and create-repo should be used, and they ARE in this manual as of the time I purchased this book, so it worked perfectly for my new (FC4,3) and old (FC2,1) systems. I don't agree with the previous person's review. The book is not bad, perhaps not all-inclusive...but then again, what is?...

"Re: This article is way out of date (yum-arch depreciated)" Thank you for your information. The book has been revised and edition 2 has been released with the changes. The section containing the yum-arch commands are now modified to include the createrepo rpm and commands. This was a minor oversight and by no means pushes the entire book "out of date." The book was used to create a YUM repository server which is still running and up-to date for a Fortune 500 company. You can use YAM to keep the yum server up-to date, but those topics aren't discussed in this book; only the setup of the server itself. The poster of the previous review should contact me (the author) and I will send you a new version at no cost. Thank you.

"This article is way out of date (yum-arch depreciated)" I bought this book hoping to find some answers to my questions about how I should setup my YUM server to server out various releases of Redhat (i.e. RHEL3 ES updates 3 through 5, and RHEL4 ES and RHEL4 ES update 1). But did not find any answers and found that "How to set up a YUM repository Server" was very out of date and was still using "yum-arch" to initialize the YUM repo. database. yum-arch has been replaced by createrepo which can be found here ( I would not had bought this book if I had know it was so out-of-date.
