Anthony Carrera, MD - December 19, 2017 Format: Kindle Edition I really enjoyed (painfully) this book | As a physician and a person who has a family member with many of these symptoms, I really enjoyed (painfully) this book. The depth into which the author delved into the biochemistry and interaction of histamines and other details of physiology was impressive. It just goes to show how far even a lay person will go to understand a disease which threatens to change their lives. Despite the symptoms being so severe to force the afflicted to "live in a bubble," the human spirit to not give up, to persevere and conquer, is heartening and is a quality to which we all should aspire. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gabriel F. I am a family physician and about 6 months ago I read Dr. Lawrence Afrin's book Never Bet Against Occum about Mast Cell Activation Disorder and it really has dramatically changed the way I treat patients (for the better!). I used to feel utterly perplexed by a large percentage of my patients who had multi-organ system complaints. I had no way to tie it all together but MCAD really does. What I so appreciate about this book is how personal and practical it is for my patients who are living with this condition. Pam's story is definitely a very rare extreme of MCAD but what I will say is that I have come to understand this condition as a spectrum, not a yes-no diagnosis. We are all somewhere on this spectrum, depending on our personal histamine thresholds. Thank you for writing it and opening your heart to share your incredibly trying journey, Pam. You absolutely are helping people by writing it.< Less
