Daniel Roos’ witty prose has been put to good use. Like all good comedic writing it has the undercurrent of pointing us towards a number of important topics that affect us all. Painting a warts and all picture of small town USA, Roos remarkably finds a good use for softball, so to show that each of our passions, however silly to some they might be own a clear value when pointing us in the right direction of what truly is important. I highly recommend you join this Church League. You’ll have a lot of fun.

A funny, charming, outrageous, and meaningfull (without being preachy!) novel about love, life, and baseball (specifically baseballs redheaded stepchild slow-pitch softball). Highly recommended!

Daniel Roos' "Church League Softball: The Battle of the Bible Belters" is a dispatch from that other America; the America where people go to church. Vast numbers of Americans grew up in and around churches, where small-town church culture and personalities were as much a source of humor and satire as the sanctuaries were (and are) places of real inspiration. This book is for them. It's also for baseball and softball fans. Roos, who actually plays church league softball himself, displays a deep love for the game and he brings it alive with zeal and aplomb. Like a sportswriter of departed generations, he puts the reader in the dirt and on the line right along with Owen's underdog team. It's impossible not to feel invested, and that is the fun of the read. You'll care who wins. The storyline is brisk and funny, the small-town portraits are drawn with flaws plainly visible, but Roos' sarcasm is tempered by love, which, as any church leaguer knows, covers a multitude of sins.
