A short book about geckos around the house using rhyme and imagination. Suitable for reading to pre-school children, or great for older children learning to read.

This is a children's book aimed at toddlers. The pictures are brightly colored and the the subjects are easily identifiable. The intro pages include a spot for a child to write their name, so the book becomes 'theirs' by personalization and can make the book a real part of their life. There are electronic contact addresses so you always know where to go back to if you want another copy of the book or see what other books are available. Each page of text is prefaced by the picture of a gecko in the described story. The sections of storyline are simple enough to be read easily and have good rhythmic elements which give the story a flowing quality. The rhyme is not perfect, but I do not believe it was intended to be, instead having the rhythm adding to the words. The subjects in the pictures are familiar to many children and the words connect with the pictures with situations that are easily recognizable. The story winds up by reiteration of the storyline and concluding with the the... More > original subject and a poignant message of preference and friendship. The two personal pictures are delightful to see and really reinforce the nature aspect of the story. "Look! a real gecko!" The about the author page is well written, but I always prefer an author to write about themselves, never in the third person. It helps a reader to reach out and shake the authors hand rather than feel they are having someone introduce this person who wrote the book. I have only one problem with the entire book. Because this is a children's book, the aviation page in the back has no place what so ever in the book and would only serve to confuse a child who is inspecting the book on their own. They may assume that it is part of the book which is not the case. I am very happy to see this book is available for free download. From what I can see on freekidsbooks.org this is just one of at least 9 books available by Danielle. I would happily recommend this title to anyone with toddlers or those who may just like a lovely children's book with a natural theme to it.
