Angelina was already off- ducking inside of the tent. It was pitch black, except for when the wind would blow the door aside and let in some moonlight. The stage was soaked with water that had leaked inside and it smelled of sagging wood.
“Papa?” She yelled over the sound of rain. She strained her eyes to see in the darkness, and peered over to the stadium seats. There, a figure. The lightning struck, and Angelina saw herself. Hunched over, head in her hands. She ran over to her, almost slipped in the water, but caught herself.
“Lydia, what’s wrong? Where’s Papa?”
Lydia lifted her head. Lightning flashed across her features; her face were covered in either tears or rain, mascara running down her eyes like black pencil marks.
“He’s gone.”
