Japanese Swords of the Bizen Tradition Excellent photography and text. Utsuri is visible in some of the photos, and the boshi in nearly all. Each sword has its own oshigata which do wonders to help the reader to discern the more subtle activity in the hamon. The English text is all that you would expect from a man of Robert Benson's qualifications: detailed, eloquent and to the point. I would like to mention that the paper is of excellent quality and the spiral binding is very convenient. All in all I prefer the photography to the Compton/Christie's books, the text is much more informative, and the oshigata add immeasurably. Roger Vuilleumier

"Japanes swords of the Bizen Tradition" my only complaint about this book is i wanted more of it. photography is suberb. comments insightful, well written and even understandable to a beginner nihonto-phile like myself. if you are serious about learning nihonto, or think you already know a little --- buy this book!!!
