"Just what I was looking for." A very easy to read and basic introduction to the cultural practices I remember growing up with but was told little about. This book was just what I was looking for in that I didn't want a huge research piece, but a simple introduction to some history of the why, who, what, where, and when along with some do it yourself guidance.

"Interesting history." I was told about this book by someone I know on a cultural/spiritual site for African Traditional Religions. They mentioned having just learned about the Azores Islands and their proximity to Africa. They shared how in the mixing of history during the unfortunate slave trade, the Portuguese not only forced many of their cultural aspects with Africans, such as language and Catholocism, but as we now know, Africans secretly spread around the world various cultural and religious practices of the Fon, Yoruba, and so forth. It was very interesting to read about so many shared practices among the Vodoun practitioners, Hoodoo, Santeria, and the like and Portuguese Folk Magic. But, it does make sense. I can't wait to visit a Festa now!
