During one of those endless nights when I just couldn't put Disquieted Echoes down, I wondered: "Why aren't there more books like this?" Daryl Owen has created one of those most deeply involving and satisfying true stories out there. In only one books, he has told of real characters involved in the horrors of religion. This is not your daddy's fantasy novel. Because the characters are so complex -- you loathe the father, and then a moment later you feel such sympathy for the kids. -- it is easy to keep the pages turning to find out what happens to them all. Who will survive, and who won't.. There's so much to be recommend in the story (and my fellow reviewers cover plenty, so I need not repeat it), but I agree that the trips into the world of the spooks and satanic rituals was definitely a wild ride. It made terrific short stories, campfire tales for sure, but who would read it outside in the dark, NOT ME.- I've noticed that there's been an increased interest in the macabre... More > lately and this is one to read. If you're looking for solid, character-driven, consistently entertaining a very dark book that has more heart than several other books combined, Read it, it will SCARE you. As a result, my hopes are incredibly high for a sequel, maybe a little too high. I would be to afraid to write a second book. Gripping, well-taut storytelling, Owen knows how to raise the hackles on the back of his reader's necks and keep them ripping through the pages. Vivid and graphically exciting. Causes the imagination to create the movie in your mind. Hoping that the ending is just as good, but this is superb. The secrets the church kept, secrets your father kept, are of much Importance: Types of secrets: power, curses, influence and the most important is he could bring demons from the darkest place. his methods to ensure secrecy are why now you are haunted, you know of the secrets and choose not to use them. This is the first book that I will not own, to afraid to have it in my library.< Less

"The author has in depth knowledge of unbelievable strength, Satanic or not he knows his place, where he will be in the end, and this is why, would you write a book about Satanic events and not worry about the after math.? I would, a father that was so far in to the black cult that his own kid turned against him. wouldn't want to be in your shoes in the end. I think this book is absolutely brilliant. The mixture of facts/ not fiction, this is a combination that makes the stories even more intriguing. It was hard to put the book down. There are some books I struggle to finish because the premise is so outlandish that my 'yea right,' radar goes off on every page, and I can't find the stories believable, however with Disquieted Echoes, this is a well written book, a book that has the most fear effect premise, I gobble up each page in anticipation of what comes next. I thoroughly enjoy it. They provided great atmosphere, evil characters, and a crap full of scare me. Learn from my... More > mistakes. It was almost bedtime, but I thought I would sample a few chapters of Disquieted Echoes before calling it a night. Yeah, good plan - didn't work. from page one to the end page. HOLY CRAP. now I'm to scared to sleep and all those little noises that go bump in the night, has my eyes wide open, lights on and wondering who or what is there. And now at work very bleary eyed. I can't stop thinking about what I just read, am I going to read it again.? I just don't know. I have been reading mystery and thriller novels for over a half-century, and thought that I might be immune to accounts of this nature. I was wrong, and am yearning for more. The only problem I had with this book, was that it ended..! The book begs for a sequel. I, for one, look forward to it. Once again Great Book. This is movie material in the rawest form. if the book scares you, so would a movie.!! x< Less

Once in a while you come across a good read, so good that you want to tell all the people you know about it, and this is it, The first part of the book jumped right in to a tragedy, but as the plot begins to thicken the characters lives unravel, it becomes utterly dark and depressing, scary. I was waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel, but it never really arrived, it stays dark, a memorable book indeed. An emotional rollercoaster doesn't begin to describe what it felt like to read this. With each page I questioned what I had felt while reading the previous page. The characters are amazingly real, with such inhumane treatment, I wanted to talk to the father or even yell at him. There are a couple of characters that realy scared me, and one that I loved to hate, so that made it very hard to decide where I stood with each individual story. I have no complaints about this book. I am already recommending it and will continue to do so for a long time to come. This book is a must... More > for all parents, educators, religious leaders. The concepts presented here were too breath-taking, the characters too realistic, and the supernatural elements just the right touch of creepy, heart-pounding, other-worldly thrill ride. BUT I can tell you a bit about my experience that was of my reading of Disquieted Echoes. Now every noise I look up, I question what I see, I'm scared to close my eyes. all though I am a professional I'm still scared of what goes bump in the night. I am donating my copy of Disquieted Echoes to The Grand Plaza Brooklyn Public Library for cataloging consideration. To me, the best place for a book to be is in the library where it can be shared with people. This book needs to be shared with as many people as possible. I personally will never read it again as I know its power and suggestions'. My name is Professor Rene Bratsky. I teach Altered Religion Boston Heights Community College.< Less

The basic plotline of this story was excellent. Youngest son in a family of four survives the abusive father, I thought the premise of the book sounded very interesting and that the book would provide me with a little bit of thought-provocation and a lot of suspense. Well it did. Time line of events that lead you to the end or the beginning, it keeps you guessing. and I bet your guess still won't be right! The writing, of course, was phenomenal. The changing plot keeps twisting it kept me steadily reading and the Satan worshipping that took place in this book just carried it to another level. It was weird and strange and I loved every bit of it. If you love books about Satan, Demonic stuff and Ghosts you will adore Disquieted Echoes. It's the perfect mix of thriller, mystery and a little bit of lunacy. it's a thriller till the very end! VERY Dark, but a page turner! Don't read with the lights off! Written by a fabulous writer This book is very dark and twisted, but I kept wanting to... More > know how it wraps up is there another book coming or is this it. Disquieted Echoes is one of those books that you just can't put down. It's very well written and it's very twisted, something like a horror movie in a book. I was surprised and shocked at times but isn't that what a good book is about? I loved it. I loved all of it and I can't wait for the next one.< Less

I started this book this afternoon, and I am so glad I did. I made dinner early and it only required me to dump stuff in a pot, because I got entirely, and completely engrossed in the book, and forgot it was in there, my food had boiled and burned and was practically jerky, why, because I was unable to put the book down, When I sat down to read disquieted echoes it was daylight, I look up now , and its dark, not only outside but in here too, the book is dark! Scary, and very scary to read, ingrossing, It was exciting, heart-wrenching, sad, sadistic, gut wrenching at times, At many points, I could not turn the page fast enough, and my heart was at full race. I consider myself a pretty savvy thriller reader, and can usually figure out the whodoneit, the story connections, and how things might end up, but not this time! It is also apparent that Mr. Owen has absolutely no regard for the state of a lady's makeup, as some of the very early chapters had my mascara in full run down my face,... More > later had my hand over my mouth, thinking oh my God these poor kids, When I had my book autographed by you, I was surprised that your a very pleasant man, very polite, but you where very apprehensive about talking about the book, now I know why, before i would have never believed in ghosts, and demons but there is something about disquieted echoes that awakens the senses as now i listen to the little noises in the night, it makes you think about whats out there or even in here, now that i have read it the spirit factor is awake and looking for whats making that damn noise, thanks, sleepless nights for me, the Cruel acts carried out by your father where horrible, you have got to be torn by what is the truth, the book is well written, it is unfortunate that you Missed out on child hood innocents that you did.< Less
