SWEET: New and selected poems by Dave Morrison
eBook (PDF), 88 Pages
A hardy weed in the garden of American poetry, Dave Morrison's work is equal parts blue collar skepticism, jazzy dreamscapes, and dark humor. Dave has been extensively published in literary magazines and anthologies. "So there's obviously no f**king with Dave Morrison's writing…read [it] by candlelight while drinking straight from the bottle, the radio playing softly in the corner." -Matt DiGangi editor Thieves Jargon - "A tidal wave of outrageous creativity; a wild rift of lines that leave you out of breath, fascinated, manipulated, articulated. Watch out!" - Elizabeth Garber, author of Pierced by the Seasons and Listening Inside the Dance - "...like Mary Oliver with a leather jacket and a sense of humor." -Sharon Mesmer author of HALF ANGEL, HALF LUNCH and THE EMPTY QUARTER -

Jun 25, 2009"Sweet by Dave Morrison" The corrido is a traditional Spanish poem embodying a line, thought, sentiment that creates a finger snap-like emotional click, an epiphany. ...Ezra Pound says poetry is not for those who want to get through hell in a hurry. ...Dave Morrison's searing imagery and fiery heart travel through a crucible, and what emerges is a big bang of pure gold. -t.forte ODGMS.com
Nov 23, 2008"(sweet) is . . . " poems that act like people we recognize- poetry that's counting its' tips and cutting in the busboy after last call . . . walking home alone on the tracks whistling in the dark . . . trashing the dressing room on closing night . . . sneaking sharp objects into the locked unit. . . So, Morrisons’ writing is a humorous friend sharing his take evenly and fairly, moving with lonesome bravado, showing off some questionable behavior and shamelessly breaking rules for the sane and their custodians. This collection rocks!
Aug 29, 2007"The sweetest guilty pleasure!" This most unique and beautiful collection of poetry both touches your heart and leaves a SWEET taste on the palate. I have enjoyed your fine prose and my page by page exploration of your rare gift for seducing words. Job well done and keep writing!
Aug 13, 2007"SWEET" I don't like poetry, but I like this.
Oct 22, 2006"Sweet.. And Then Some" Like all good artists, Dave Morrison isn't afraid of exposing his vulnerabilities. In Sweet, the gamut of emotion is revealed, boldly and unapologetically. Morrison doesn't shy away from admitting disappointment. Likewise, he exults in triumphs. And at the end of each poem, hope, resignation, joy, bitterness, whimsy or beauty is always coupled with resolve. Morrison refuses to let it be – he learns, endures and grows as elegantly as real life will always encourage and allow. Readers will identify not only with lessons learned but also, and perhaps more importantly, a life that’s richer for the elucidation. Brilliant imagery, clever turns of phrase, and evocative memories all lay within these pages. But more important are slices of life supporting them. They may not all be iambic or rhyming or pretty. But they relay stories that often lead, refreshingly, beyond the stage on which poetry is set.
