"Review of Flugtag 88" I just finished reading "Flugtag 88". The story is compelling and the writing excellent. I was just going to read the first few chapters to see what I thought; I couldn't put it down. The story moves along at an excellent pace; you never feel like you are wading through the story waiting for something to happen. I never realized what kind of an impact that accident had on the people that witnessed it. I was in the States when it happened, so I didn't hear much about it first hand, but I've met people since then that have talked about the horror of seeing so many people killed and injured in that short span of time. Dave's treatment of the story leaves enough to the imagination that I can imagine what it must have been like, but leaves out enough of the details that the story doesn't become a sensationalism of the accident. I also appreciate his use of the perspective of characters that were involved in the incidents. The love story between... More > Sue and Antonio is also compelling. I like Dave's treatment of the sex; there is enough detail to know what happened, but enough mystery that my teenagers could read the story. A few of the characters could have stood to be more completely developed, especially Ted and Liz, who I thought should have been more prominently featured in the story. Overall, however, I think it's a well done story about a compelling event in the history of the U. S. Air Force.< Less
