"Polly & The Boggart" I was lucky enough to get a copy of this book about a year ago (before it came to Lulu). It's written in the style of books that I would have read as a child (25 years ago) and, perhaps would have prospered better back then. However, it is a fun read for kids, and an equal delight to read out loud to children too. Polly is a 12 year old American girl who finds herself, because of her father's job, in a small village house, somewhere in England. Her strange adventures begin almost right away as she meets up with Mrs Butterworth, her elderly next door neighbour. Mrs Butterworth, regails her with all kinds of tales about Ancient Fairie races, their fight against the evil races (goblins, ogres and the like), and of a spell of sleeping that went badly wrong. Polly is give the job of reviving the 'Council of Fairies'. The chief Fairie creatures, so that they can awaken the remainder of the Fairie races. She is helped in this quest by a rather grumpy... More > Boggart called Hob. Hob, although a Boggart, is NOT the kind that you will have read about or seen in the Harry Potter series. THIS Boggart, is a somewhat mischievious and enigmatic fairie creature - and definately one of the good guys. Needless to say, Hob and Polly have a nuber of fun and scary adventures climaxing in a battle against an evil Goblin, and the sad parting of friends. I have to admit, a tear or two slipped from my eyes as I completed the book.< Less
