"Excellent and absorbing book" Having long been fascinated by the Williamson Tunnels, I was delighted to discover a book on this sadly neglected topic. And I was not disappointed, finding it to be a most excellent read. Information concerning Joseph Williamson is notoriously hard to come by, but the history of the man and his possible motives for building the mysterious tunnels has been meticulously researched here by David Clensy. Aware that a lot of what has been told over the years may simply be embellished folklore, David has carefully laid out all the available information and the reader is left to make up his or her own mind concerning the 'truth'. Don't expect to receive definitive answers, but the fact that the mystery still remains makes this tale more fascinating still, as in any good mystery. Also included within the book is a fictional tale about Williamson which is both unusual and well written. I found it hard to put this book down. A truly superb piece of work.
