Step back in time and experience the lives of those who lived, loved and struggled to help a small Eastern Ontario town cope with the Great Depression and World War Two. You will meet many memorable characters and witness their heroic responses to life's challenges and those,"The Beckoning Land" puts in their path. Such a vivid picture is painted by the author that you feel you are an actual participant in the story. A wonderful read and a well researched saga of times past but not forgotten.

Dr. Coombs has done it again. This is the sanguine tale of a big city boy who heads to the wilds of a Northeastern Ontario town to find his destiny. He succeeds. Read closely. There is autobiography layered beneath. If only all of us could find the secret to living life like Joe Dombrowski, the world would be a better place. Great cottage reading or in front of the fireplace on a cold winter's night.

An endearing glimpse into pioneer life. Memorable characters in a well researched look back at rural life in the early twentieth century. Enjoy!
