All I can say is that this book hit home. I lost my dad in my mid twenty’s. Til this day, I can still hear his dichos. We don’t appreciate our love ones til they are really gone. This book is a reminder of that. Not only are the quotes inspiring, but also encouraging. The more I read them, the more strong and proud I feel to be brown. My mother and father had similar struggles and did their best to raise my brother and I. Never take no for an answer.

This lovely book is a guide/workbook/journal to utilize in personal meditation, growth and change. From his inspirational introduction honoring his mother to poignant quotes and sayings, some with journal space and probing questions. This book engages and inspires the reader to thoughtfully reflect on his/her personal journey in life. It prompts one to not settle with what is, but to grow with purpose and make a positive impact in one’s life, that of family and friends and the larger community. This simple and profound book is a wonderful journey of self and would also make a great gift for people of all ages. David is an inspiring writer. This is a timeless book that one can return to over and over and gain new insights with each reading.

I read the book again and tried to find my favorite quote, thoughts on life, personal wisdom. It’s impossible, because every single page is fabulous, and resonates with me on a daily basis! I bought two books, gifted both, and have more on the way... But a favorite ‘favorite’ of mine is page. 90.. “ Miracles do happen. To experience them in our lives, with full abundance , we must eliminate negativity in all forms” Add this one on page 142. “ The last words spoken to anyone should be kind words” David Damian Figueroa and Antonia Hernandez Figueroa thank you both, hugs forever...

With this book you'll feel like you have your own city-dwelling Confucius at your side. The book is laden with a sympathy for human frailty which takes into account such things as grace, daily life, introspection, success and everything in between. Like other works which show "the way," the book presents philosophy bits, ethics bites and substance but without rituals and rigidity. You'll be enriched every time you read it. It delivers small packages which are easy to digest for those of us living in a fast-paced world or suffer from short attention spans. This may well be the book which establishes David Damian Figueroa as one of today's culture heroes!
