This is a story of fiction but inspired by the love of trucking and simple rural farm life as it was in the 50s and 60s. A few hours east of Fort Stockton, Texas, Julie saw the sign indicating she was still a long way from San Antonio. Her eyes felt tired. Several miles back, she had nodded off just a second, and it scared her so bad she almost went off the road into a rocky hillside. Second thoughts haunted her mind about the decision she had made to try for the Alamo city tonight. It was now 11:00 PM and the rain hadn’t let up making the road almost impossible to see. She cranked up the heater as the outside temperature dropped considerably colder the further east she traveled. She picked up a Del Rio station on the radio and turned the volume up to keep the cab filled with noise. The country music eased her tired mind as the song play-ing was one of her favorites “yeah,” she thought “that’s me, Julie Dickinson with nothing but eighteen wheels under my... For a piece of fiction to be good it needs several things. It needs to evoke emotion, it needs to have interesting characters easily understood. The story has to hold the reader and enable him or her be part of the story, experiencing what the characters experience. It can’t be too short, or the reader will think there was more to the story than was made evident. I would of liked this story to be a bit longer. David Heath did all this and more. He created complex characters that were easy to understand ..Humor that made you laugh till you cried and sadness that made you cry. An emotional ride as you travel through these characters lives. And, of course what great story doesn’t have a twist at its conclusion. This is a great story for the whole family. A story that has no violence, no gratuitous sex and no cussing (naughty)words Although one character does use a few expletives , and when you get to know this character I’m sure you will forgive him. Congratulations David Heath on your... More > first publication. Looking forward to more of your great work. Stewart Gardner….. Really enjoyed "The Blue Mule"! This book is a must read for anyone. Once I started it I couldn't put it down. Mr. Heath did a great job connecting the reader to the characters. I felt as though I had known them all my life! Twists and turns in the plot really keep you on edge! Can't wait for a sequel! Jimmy Parker< Less
