Price: $5.00
This 188 page dynamo hums along like a 1978 Blue Dodge Eris with a full tank of gas and a radio that only picks up the sound of meditating monks. So, come along for a ride and witness a kidnapping deconstruct, a twisted plot to turn war into a reality style TV program and a typical day at a company with the ill-advised name Object Oriented Payment Solutions, Inc. (or OOPS, Inc. for short). The Unsolvable Circus - a comedy about failure, confusion, lies, gross incompetence and love.

"Usolvable, indeed." The Unsolvable Circus, by David J. Horn The title of this book is definitely not misleading; thank goodness the characters cross paths throughout, or you’d be too frustrated and “thought clogged” to finish the story. The book is broken into three parts, each carefully woven into the other by certain characters, and it’s a funny and thought provoking read. The first part is about a kidnapping gone terribly (and hilariously) wrong; the second is about a government scandal to turn war into a reality TV series; and the third is about a man who’s hired by someone who’s been fired to do a job that no longer exists, so he’s forced to work a job that he knows nothing about until management, who also seemingly doesn’t exist, can decide what to do with him. Confused yet? My favorite part of this book was the second chapter; the references to government hiding the truth and brainwashing the public is not that far from the truth (depending on your political... More > views, mind you), and I delighted in reading about the “Surreptitious Infractions of Necessity” (SIN) used by the government, specifically, the “Department of Disinformation” (DoDis), in order to successfully implement “Thought Clogging” (TC). What I found most humorous (and again, not so far from the truth), was the “TC” oath, written by “the unofficial guru of TC,” Flash Boing: “Make sure that people’s minds Are full of wet sloppy shit Then you can do whatever you want And get away with it.” FLASH! BOING! BINGO! “Protocol NOT4U2C” was especially interesting, and the second chapter of The Unsolvable Circus makes one wonder if the book is indeed fiction or (somehow, in a “UGOD” sort of way) a work of fiction. The shortcoming of the book, I thought, was the fact that it didn’t seem to flow as well as it could have. The author jumps about, and although there are references to previous characters throughout the book, I found myself having to go back a few pages in order to try and make sense of it all. The book also could have used a thorough edit to correct grammatical and punctuation errors, but overall I think this was a well done project, and a fascinating, thought provoking read. The book’s chapters could easily stand alone, and I was surprised at the end; a breakdown and rewrite of each chapter, transformed into three separate works would be wonderful and most welcomed, and I look forward to future works from this talented author. ~author Adie Bishop www.AdieBishop.com< Less

"The Unsolvable Circus" Mr. Horn is a very talented, exciting author. I find it difficult to believe that this his first published book, based on my reading of his book. His story-telling and characters are fascinating. Once I started reading this book, I did not want to put it down. I am whole-heartedly recommending The Unsolvable Circus to any reader that wants a very entertaining, well-crafted novel.
