The leading poem in this collection of twenty two narrative poems won the 2013 Kernewek Lowender Poetry Prize in the Copper Triangle of South Australia. ‘Smugglers Pie’ was the poem, and so many people requested a copy that it was decided to put it out in a small book, complemented with another twenty poems about the sea, in some manner or form. The Kernewek Lowender, for the uninitiated, is the Cornish Festival, held every two years to celebrate the area’s history of copper mining. The theme for this year’s competition was ‘Smugglers and other Sinners’.
Each poem in this slight volume is rendered in strict rhyme and metre by South Australian poet David Lewis Paget, well known on writing sites around the internet for his Gothic Narrative Verse. This book would make a nice gift for anyone with a yen for sea stories.
